The relationship between school districts and parental commuting behavior: Analysis of gender differences in the Chinese context

The distribution of school districts would largely influence people’s commuting distance, but this association is hardly examined. This study applies the 2015 Xiamen household travel survey to investigate associations between district and parental behavior. results showed that mainly affect parents’ distance when interaction effects gender are considered. Specifically, positively associated with distances for males, whereas opposite trend observed females. Then, variations exist in on respondents different levels education. quality without college degrees, especially male respondents, no significant was found more degrees. Male those suffer higher costs longer than their female counterparts. highlights urban planners policy makers should consider impact rethink most effective high-quality primary schools reduce socio-spatial inequality (e.g., disadvantage males commuting).
